The skinny about R4DR

Ready "4D" Road is a 12-week challenge leading up to the Raleigh/Durham Afro-Caribbean Association's (RDACA) CaribMask Caribbean Carnival.

 

In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles, RDACA has partnered with e-Fit4Life to help individuals in the community to

 

1) increase exercising

2) improve what they eat AND

3) lose weight

 

This challenge is open to all and may be of special interest to those individuals who will be "going down the road" in beautiful costumes for CaribMask on August 22, 2015 in downtown Raleigh.

 

The "4D" Challenge has 4 components.

 

4 Days a week (of exercise)

Erica Dixon is a resident of Durham, NC. In 2011, Erica was selected 1 of thousands of instructors to audition for a chance to become a Zumba Jammer (ZJ) choreography specialist for Zumba Fitness instructors. As a ZJ, Erica conducts training sessions in NC and throughout the US. She has been a licensed Zumba Fitness Instructor since 2008 and has been teaching classes in locations all over the triangle area.  She obtained a Master’s Degree in Recreation Administration, established an extensive career in the fitness industry that included owning her very own fitness center, and became a professor in the Physical Education and Recreation Department at North Carolina Central University for 8 years before ultimately becoming the Director of Campus Recreation in 2012. Erica is also a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, and she enjoys teaching. She is the owner of e-Fit4Life.

 

Candice Alick is a native of Atlanta, GA  and  has a Bachelors of Arts in Biological Sciences with a Physiology concentration from Northwestern University, Evanston , IL and a Master of Science in Cellular Molecular Biology from Georgia State University, Atlanta,GA. Before relocating to the Triangle, Candice served as a Research Coordinator at Mercer School of Medicine, coordinating projects targeting Diabetes Managment and Substance Abuse. Currently, she is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Nutrition in Intervention & Policy Division at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She currently assist individuals in making lifestyle changes through healthy eating, increased physical activity, reduction of sedentary behaviors and behavior modification. Her current research involves achieving clinically significant weight loss among Black men through use of intimate partners as a source of social support. Candice is a co-founder of the Raleigh/Durham Afro-Caribbean Association (RDACA) and seeks to bring empowerment to the community economically, socially and physically.
